The Invictus Games legacy for ongoing recovery

Invictus Australia’s Harnessing the Power of Sport video series sets the scene for what prospective competitors and their families can expect from participating in an Invictus Games.

Introduced by veteran, Invictus Games competitor and Paralympian Curtis McGrath OAM, this video features veterans Rachel Kerrigan, Brigid Baker, Garry Robinson and his wife Katrina as they experience a journey of recovery through camaraderie, family involvement and a focus on rehabilitation rather than medals.

We recognise that spots on the Australian Invictus team are limited, so if a veteran is unsuccessful in qualifying, Veteran Sport Australia provides plenty of other opportunities to participate in sport to achieve similar wellbeing outcomes.

A huge thank you to every member of the veteran community who volunteered to be part of the series and shared your amazing stories. Your contributions were incredible.

Many thanks also to the members of the Working Group who collaborated with VSA and donated their time, experience and insights to ensure these videos were a success – Robert Swanwick, Amanda Scott, Clare Serafini, Rachel Kerrigan, Invictus Games Team to The Hague co-captains Sarah Petchell and Shane Bramley, Ben Carbis and Project Lead Michelle Cook.

We also want to acknowledge and thank the Department of Veteran Affairs for funding this project through the Supporting Younger Veterans Grant.
