Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre – let the building begin!

Last week was the official sod-turning for the purpose-built Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre at Wallace Street. Services have been operating from the temporary site since last year, but this exciting step has been welcomed by all.
At Invictus Australia our motto is Unconquered Together so we are excited to continue working together with RSL LIFECARE LIMITED and Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling offering a variety of wellbeing services for the Defence Community and their families.
Our impact focusses on strengthening the physical and mental wellbeing of the community through the power of sport and, along with our sporting partners, we will continue running programs for local veterans, current serving Australian Defence Force members and their families.
Our Veteran Engagement Specialist for the NSW South Coast, Debbie Dimmock, will be working out of the Centre and is already collaborating with veteran organisations in the area.
Debbie says, “I can’t wait to be working from the new Veteran wellbeing centre! It’s such a privilege to be able to work under the same roof as RSL LifeCare and Open Arms. We’re doing great things already, working collaboratively and complementing each other’s services, and this new centre will only increase the positive impact sport & recreation can have on veterans and families.”
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Andrew Gee MP, Senator Jim Molan, Andrew Constance MP, DVA Repatriation Commissioner, Don Spinks and Shoalhaven City Council CEO, Stephen Dunshea took part in the sod-turning.
Along with Invictus Australia, RSL NSW President Ray James, the local RSL NSW sub-Branches and a number of other ex-service organisations attended the event, demonstrating a united effort to support veterans in the local area.
The Veteran Wellbeing Centre in Nowra is one of six across Australia and the first-of-its-kind in NSW. All current and former serving Australian Defence Force members and their families can access the Centre and the services it provides. The Centre is owned and operated by RSL LifeCare and is designed to be a one-stop-shop offering support.
Construction of the Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre is expected to be finalised by mid-2022.
